[A part of him he hasn't been acknowledging until now is frightened by how much trust he's putting into someone again. A huge part of that fear is the fear of letting someone important to him down again but there's also this new, invasive feeling that's whispering, "my trust in you better not be misplaced" and it just doesn't make any sense to him.
